Colossians pt. 3 - 6/3/18

Sermon Summary: Jesus is the Image of the Invisible God. while Adam and all of mankind is created in the image of God, Jesus IS the actual image of God. We are only a reflection of God and not even a good reflection at that. But in Jesus see and hear God himself. In this passage, we see the Hymn of Christ. And Paul points to the fact that Jesus is the “firstborn of all creation”. This is a title often used for Kings. And this affirms the fact that Jesus is the King, the Messiah who has come to save. And Jesus is also the agent of all creation. In Genesis when God created the world, God created the world through Jesus. God spoke Jesus and the universe came to be. Jesus is the logos of God. the Word of God. and all things were created by him. But not only is he the agent of all creation but he is the goal of creation. we read in Romans 8 that all creation has been groaning waiting for salvation. When Adam sinned, all nature knew that the perfect harmony we enjoyed with our Creator had been ruined. And nature has been groaning, yearning, waiting for Jesus to put it all back into place again. All creation had been waiting for Jesus. This is just a part of the Colossians Hymn that talks about the supremacy and the sufficiency of Christ. Christ is above all thing and Christ is sufficient for all things. This is the Jesus that we believe in. through him, God has reconciled us to him.
