Sermon Summary:

Saul’s last straw is chapter 15. He disobeys YHWH by not devoted all the things in Amalek to destruction. In the first verse of the chapter, it is clear that this is the commandment of the Lord. It says you will listen to the voice of the Lord. But Saul neglects Samuel’s words from YHWH and does what seems good in his eyes.
His excuse is that he saved the best of the best cattle and sheep for a sacrifice to YHWH. So is this a bad reasoning? Yes and No. It is a great reasoning if he were never to be commanded to devote all things to destruction. But Yes it is a bad reasoning in this context because YHWH specifically commanded to devote ALL things to destruction.

in this way, we can see that YHWH see that obedience is better than sacrifice. Our obedience brings more delight to YHWH than just our acts of worship such as prayer, singing praises and charity. Instead what YHWH looks at and takes value in is our hearts. Our hearts first need to point to YHWH.

In all things we do. at home, at school, at our work places, we should always remember to point our hearts to God.
