Sermon Passage: Luke 1:16-17
Sermon Title: Prepare the Way Sermon By: Pastor Davy (Youth) Sermon Summary: How do you prepare for Christmas? Do you make a list of gifts to buy? Do you turn on your Christmas spotify playlist? The world is obsessed with Christmas these days. There are Christmas/Holiday flavor coffees, holiday shoes, holiday sales, holiday songs and the list goes on. But is this the right way to prepare the way for Jesus? What did the first Christmas look like? The first Christmas was nothing like the Christmas that we enjoy today. There were no lights, carols nor a serene Mary with white cloth around baby Jesus. The first Christmas was actually a horrible, pathetic way of welcoming the Savior into this world. The first Christmas was dark. It was gloomy. It was painful and even from the beginning, the Messiah was rejected as it says in Luke 2:11. Why did Jesus come this way? It’s because he came with a purpose. he came to save us. He is our Savior. we need to remember this amazing fact as we prepare for the Advent. We must be aware that we NEED a Savior. Also, Jesus, when he was born, was named Immanuel to tell us that jesus is God and Jesus is with us. Jesus, the Son of God, came to us in a human’s body. He experienced temptation, he experienced tests and he had to endure even our death to save us from our sins. But Jesus is also with us. He came to repair a relationship between creature and creator. He came to reconcile us to God. and so he came vulnerably, as a naked helpless baby. As we prepare our hearts for this season of Advent, we must remember that it is not the gifts, the lights, the carols, the food nor even the family that is the focal point of Christmas. Let us not forget why we need Christmas. It’s because we need a savior. Prepare your heart. Prepare the way.
