[Summary]
Apostle Paul learned the love of God by experience, so he knew it not only in his head, but in his heart. So he explains it in three ways in this passage. First, God's love is greater than the sin (vv.31-34). Paul points out that God justified us by sending his own Son to die for us. Therefore, there's no condemnation. We sometimes think that we are not good enough for God to love us. We are too sinful to be loved. It was my case. However, God's love is greater than our sins. Second, God's love prevails all the circumstances (vv.35-37). When we face the harsh conditions, we often lose our joy, calling and love. But if we truly believe that God still loves us even in that situations, we can keep joy, calling and love. That's what God's love compels us to do. With this love, we can face all the tribulations, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword or even things that Paul wasn't aware of at that time. Last, God's love is inseparable (vv.38-39). One of the ways that Hebrews refer to the whole is to juxtapose the two other ends. For example, heaven and earth does not literally refer to heaven and earth only. Instead, it refers to the heaven, earth and everything in it. And Paul in verses 38-39, Paul was trying to refer everything that he could think of. And whatever it is, it cannot separate us from the love of God. [Announcements] 1.
