Progress: 6th session 'Heart Idolatry' Bible passage: Mark 1:15 and Luke 10:38-42 [Summary] When people asked Jesus about what to do in order to do the work of God, Jesus' answer is enough to surprise mordern Christian. "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." (John 6:29). Work of God is not doing something but believing the son of God. How can we grow as a Christian by believing? We sin because we don't believe God in our deep hearts. We tend to see only our surface sins but there are heart idols underneath them. So we have to carefully look at our hearts and find out why we sin, then we can preach the gospel so that we can rely on the true gospel message. [Announcement] Young Adults Outing on 11/4 We will meet at the church at 10:30am

Progress: 5th session 'Repentance' Bible passage: 2 Corinthians 7:5-13 [Summary] Repentance is not something negative that all the Christian should aviod. Rather, it must be a lifestyle of a Christian. As we grow our awareness of God's holiness and our sinfulness, our reaction to the gap is repentance. However, if we do not repent in a biblical way, we end up merely getting self-consolement from our guilty. What is the true repentance? It must be toward God, not ourselves. It is also motivated by genuine sorrow and should lie on our hearts. And it should help us look for Jesus Christ. It is not we that change ourselves, but God. Material: The Gospel-Centered Life
Progress: 4th session 'The Law and Gospel' [Summary] The relationship between law and gospel is good to be addressed for the Christians. If we think that we are saved through faith, therefore, we don't need to keep the law anymore, we fell into the license. However, we think that we should obey the law so that we can please God through our works, then it is legalism. We should be able to answer to the question that whether we are supposed to obey the law or not, after the conversion. The law was given to show who God is (purpose of the law). By keeping it, we could please God and walk with God. However, no one can keep the law perfectly. So the function of the law became a mirror (to show how sinful we are) and a guardian (bring us to Christ). Although we are saved through the gospel not through the law, we still need the law to know who God is (purpose of the law). As a Christian, we still need to meditate the law and learn about God through it. Also, we are to try to keep it not to be saved (because we are not under the law), but to please God. It is not a burden but a joy. By doing that, we will know more of God's holiness as well as our sinfulness everyday, which will take us to the gospel. Material: The Gospel-Centered Life
Progress: 3rd session 'Believing the Gospel' [Summary] Since we are living in an achievement-based society, sometimes it is hard for us to believe the gospel which tells us that we are saved not by works but by what Jesus has done. However, the bible teaches us that our righteousness comes from Jesus Christ (passive righteousness). If we are not spiritually growing, it is not because we are not working hard enough, but it is because we forgot that we are saved through the works of Jesus Christ. By preaching the gospel to us everyday, we can remind ourselves that we are the children of God, no matter what we do. And this is the only way that we can grow and produce good fruits. |
